Mr Jay Nath is a consultant general surgeon with specialist expertise in abdominal hernia surgery. His primary appointment is as an NHS consultant at Southmead Hospital in Bristol, with additional surgical sessions undertaken at Practice Plus Group Hospital, Emersons Green.
Mr Nath is proficient in both open and laparoscopic (keyhole) hernia repair techniques and holds membership of the British and European Hernia Societies.
Mr Nath graduated from Birmingham Medical School in 2005 and completed his surgical training in the West Midlands. He went on to undertake a fellowship in São Paulo, Brazil, before moving to Bristol in 2019.
Mr Nath was awarded a PhD for his research work, which was recognised with the Symes Medal from the Royal College of Surgeons in 2019. He maintains a strong academic interest, having authored over forty publications, including journal articles and book chapters, and has supervised more than fifteen undergraduate and postgraduate students. He is a faculty member of the international charity Transplant Links.
