Education & experience

Dr Balerdi graduated with a BSc (Hons) from the University of Bristol in 1999 before completing their MBChB at the University of Leicester in 2003. They went on to achieve MRCP from the Royal College of Physicians (London) in 2006, followed by CBNC accreditation in 2013 and BSE accreditation in 2014. In 2015, they completed specialist training in cardiology and were later elected FRCP (London) in 2019.

Their training reflects a consistent focus on cardiovascular medicine, with particular expertise in imaging. Over the years, they have developed advanced skills across multiple cardiac imaging modalities, including complex and stress echocardiography, cardiac CT and nuclear cardiology. This breadth allows them to assess heart structure and function in considerable detail, supporting accurate diagnosis and tailored treatment planning.

Dr Balerdi practises privately at Spire Hull and East Riding Hospital in Anlaby, Hull, while also supporting the wider regional cardiology service. They are experienced in all aspects of general cardiology, combining imaging expertise with a comprehensive understanding of heart disease. Patients are often referred for detailed assessment of symptoms such as chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations or concerns relating to congenital or inherited heart conditions.

Their professional philosophy centres on “making it better”. For them, this starts with clear communication and a shared understanding of how each patient experiences their condition. Investigations and treatment plans are explained carefully and structured logically, so patients know what to expect. Dr Balerdi’s research interests align closely with their clinical subspecialties. Their work reflects an ongoing commitment to refining how imaging techniques are used to guide decision-making and optimise patient outcomes.

They are especially interested in how non-invasive imaging modalities - such as stress echocardiography, cardiac CT and nuclear cardiology - can provide detailed functional and anatomical information, reducing uncertainty and supporting earlier, more precise interventions.

Clinically, Dr Balerdi specialises in adult congenital heart disease and cardiac conditions affecting pregnancy, areas that require careful, individualised management. They understand that these situations can be complex and sometimes emotionally charged, and they take a measured, collaborative approach to care.

Their expertise spans all aspects of cardiac ultrasound, from routine transthoracic echocardiography to the assessment of complex congenital, inherited and valvular heart disease. In addition, they perform and interpret cardiac and coronary CT scans and contribute to the broader general cardiology service across the region.
