Consultant Urological Surgeon,
Mr Farooq Khan excelled in his basic medical training at University College Hospital London Medical School in 1996, graduating with distinction. During this time he also completed an Intercalated BSc in Anatomy and Developmental Biology, undertaking research on nerve regeneration. Following his basic surgical training at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, he moved on to undertake urological research at the Royal Free Hospital in London before entering his higher surgical training on the Cambridge urology rotation (2003-2010).
Mr Khan was appointed Consultant Urological Surgeon at Luton & Dunstable NHS Foundation Trust in 2010 where he has since developed wide experience in all aspects of urology and a particular interest in laser prostate surgery (HoLEP) and stone disease. He is the Director of a twice yearly HoLEP Masterclass promoting this technique to consultants, both in the NHS and private sector and is a surgical mentor across Europe.
During his seven years at the Luton & Dunstable NHS Foundation Trust, Mr Khan has introduced a number of innovative initiatives such as new surgical techniques that have led to improved results, greater efficiency and shorter hospital stays. He was rewarded for his efforts with a Clinical Excellence Award.
Mr Khan has an active interest in teaching and education, and is Course Director for the urology modules at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and an invited senior faculty member for the regional Specialist Registrar’s teaching and for the FRCS (Urol) Revision course. He is committed to the development of the widespread use of HoLEP surgery, acting as a mentor to consultants wishing to learn laser prostate surgery and teaching at units across the UK and around the world.

He has performed over 1100 laser prostate surgeries and have performed the highest number of low-power HoLEPS in the UK (Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate).
Mr Khan is also highly experienced in circumcision and revision circumcision, annually completing over 120 in the private sector alone. He also provides a comprehensive prostate cancer screening programme which uses some of the most advanced clinical technology available that aims to provide an efficient diagnosis to put patient’s minds at ease.
Mr Khan’s research into the close relationship of the neuro-vascular bundles responsible for erectile function to the seminal vesicles and prostate gland, published in Clinical Anatomy, has played a role in the greater understanding of nerve preservation during radical prostatectomy, and more recently complemented interest in total and partial seminal vesicle sparing radical prostatectomy. His work on prostate cancer diagnosis and staging has also been published as original articles in leading international journals. He has been asked to provide book chapters on both topics on several occasions.
Mr Khan has an interesting claim to fame in that he was shadowed by the original actors for the medical drama Holby City whilst he was a junior doctor at Papworth Hospital in Cambridge. In addition he has written articles for the Embarrassing Bodies doctors magazine.

Mr Khan is accredited by all the major healthcare insurers (BUPA, AXA, PPP, Cigna, etc). His fee for initial consultation is £150 but may differ should there be a pre-arranged fixed rate with the insurance company. He also welcomes self-paying patients.
