Consultant Physician & Rheumatologist,
Dr Sundeept Bhalara is a Consultant Physician and Rheumatologist in West Hertfordshire, with a special interest in the treatment of inflammatory arthritis. He treats a wide spectrum of rheumatological diseases including gout, multisystem immunological disease, osteoporosis, soft tissue disease and sport injuries.
Dr Sundeept Bhalara qualified from University College, London in 1991 in Medicine. Before obtaining higher specialist rheumatology training at Charing Cross and the Hammersmith Hospitals and the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, London, he undertook broad general medical training in London teaching hospitals including St Bartholemew's.
In 2002, Dr Bhalara received specialist recognition in rheumatology and general medicine and subsequently has been working as a consultant rheumatologist in West Hertfordshire (Watford, Hemel Hempstead and St Alban's Hospitals) and Charing Cross Hospital.
As part of his earlier training, Dr Bhalara completed his Master's degree in Immunology (which was awarded with a distinction) and continues to have an academic interest in the immunology of rheumatic disease. Currently, his clinical practice is broad and encompasses the whole spectrum of rheumatological disease, but he has a particular interest in osteoporosis, soft tissue disease and arthritis.
In May 2007, Dr Bhalara was elected as Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians. He has previously run the Early Arthritis Service at Charing Cross Hospital, a specialised tertiary referral clinic with state of the art investigational /therapeutic facilities and an associated research program. He practices privately at Spire Bushey and Harpenden Hospitals, and the Bishopswood Hospital, Northwood. In addition to this, he is skilled in Joint and Soft Tissue injection techniques and also trains practitioners including GPs and physiotherapists locally.
Dr Bhalara’s current clinical practice is broad and involves the entire spectrum of rheumatological disease. This includes multisystem immunological disease, gout, osteoporosis and osteoarthritis, sports injuries and soft tissue disease.
Dr Bhalara's particular interest is in the diagnostics and therapeutics of inflammatory arthritis. He is also skilled in joint and soft tissue injection techniques and trains a range of practitioners including GPs and physiotherapists locally.
Dr Bhalara has a doctoral thesis on the assessment of early inflammatory arthritis and biological therapy following research undertaken at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, London. He has published on these and related topics and has been involved with early clinical trials on the use of novel biological agents in rheumatoid arthritis.
Dr Bhalara previously ran a tertiary centre early arthritis service at Charing Cross Hospital and is actively involved with an extensive research program to find novel diagnostic tests and therapeutic targets. During his earlier training he obtained a master’s degree in immunology (awarded with distinction) and retains an academic interest in the immunology of rheumatic disease.
