Pradip Thakker
Pradip (Pradumal) Thakker is Consultant Paediatrician at Queen’s Medical Centre Nottingham. With a particular interest in children’s heart problems including murmur/palpitations, faints, fits and chest pains, he offers private assessment, diagnosis and treatment for all problems affecting children at Spire Leicester Hospital and Nuffield Health Leicester Hospital.
Training and experience
Dr Pradip Thakker qualified in medicine from Newcastle Medical School in 1989. He became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians in 1993 and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.
Dr Thakker was first appointed as a Consultant Paediatrician in 2000, and has been Consultant Paediatrician at Queen Medical Centre in Nottingham since 2005. In addition to extensive experience in dealing with general paediatric concerns such as feeding issues, asthma, allergies, constipation and epilepsy, Dr Thakker has a registered special interest in paediatric cardiology and is responsible developing the only syncope centre dedicated to children in the UK. He is also trained in the management of neonatal conditions.
Dr Thakker is an examiner for the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and an executive member of the Paediatric Expertise in Cardiology Special Interest Group.
Clinical interests
Dr Thakker has a special clinical interest in:
- Investigation of chest pains, heart murmurs/palpitations, fainting/dizziness, fits and funny turns in children
- Cardiac screening for children with a family history of congenital heart defects/arrhythmias and sudden cardiac deaths
- General paediatric and neonatal problems, including feeding and growth concerns, food allergies, constipation, abdominal pains, allergies, asthma, headaches and epilepsy
Research interests
Dr Thakker has a research interest in syncope (loss of consciousness) in children. He has published various articles on tilt testing in children and provides GP education courses on the diagnosis of paediatric cardiology problems and understanding paediatric syncope.
