A midwife is a professional that assists the doctor during a normal delivery of a baby. A midwife may also monitor the patient as she is giving birth. A midwife in a community setting may also follow up pregnant mothers as well as provide suitable treatments for the patient’s condition. She may work independently or as part of the medical team in a hospital setting.
