About Newmarket House

Rated as Outstanding for Care by the CQC and accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatrists, Newmarket House has been providing holistic, personalised care for adults with eating disorders for nearly 30 years. Its founding premise is that, given the appropriate support and opportunity, people with eating disorders can recover and go on to enjoy fulfilling lives free from the difficulties they endured in the past.

Newmarket House offers a four-stage treatment process that focuses not only on the restoration of weight to a healthy level, but also on helping patients to build confidence and hope, develop a sense of independence and find an identity beyond their eating disorder, looking forward to a future no longer ruled by illness.

The emphasis at Newmarket House is on multidisciplinary care, involving psychiatrists, nurses, support workers, psychologists and occupational therapists. Clinical decisions are made through discussions with the in-house staff, patients and their community team. An extensive range of clinical interventions is available, including group therapy, psychiatric support, psychological therapy, occupational therapy, dietetics, nursing and support work.

Therapeutic environment

Newmarket House offers a home-like setting, designed to encourage a shared sense of trust and respect, promote independence and help patients adopt daily life skills.

Meals are prepared in the open-plan kitchen and dining area, with patients and staff eating together. Patients also have use of an art and music room, communal living room and tranquil garden room. The house is surrounded by a large garden, which provides a peaceful space to reflect and connect with nature.

At different points in their stay, patients share or have their own bedrooms, promoting a shared experience and collective commitment to recovery on the one hand and the development of independence and individual responsibility on the other.

Overall, the aim is to provide a peaceful, optimistic and inspiring setting in which patients can find an identity and life beyond their eating disorder.
