A transient ischemic attack (TIA) is also known as a mini stroke. It is caused by a transient blockage in the blood flow to the brain. This blockage causes a decreased oxygen supply to the brain. A stroke lasts longer than a TIA. TIAs last for a few minutes and the patient usually recovers completely within 24 hours. Symptoms include sudden loss of vision, slurred speech, dropping of the mouth or eye, loss of balance and paralysis on one side of the body. It can be prevented by regular exercise and adopting a healthy lifestyle.
