Tooth filling is indicated for the decay in the tooth that has not yet reached the pulp of the yet. It is a simple routine procedure which does not always require any anaesthetic. Decay in the tooth is removed with the help of a hand drill/bur. A lining material is then added to the cavity to protect the pulp and this is then filled with a suitable permanent material. Common filling materials are amalgam, glass ionomer cement and composite. Microleakage is a common complaint after tooth filling.
