Hyperparathyroidism is a condition where there is high a level of parathyroid hormones. PTH regulates serum calcium and phosphate levels and is also important in the development of bone. When there is hyperparathyroidism there is an increase in calcium levels in the blood while phosphate levels are low. Most people that are diagnosed with hyperparathyroidism do not have symptoms but those that have symptoms suffer from calcium kidney stones, abdominal pains and depression.
