A heart attack (myocardial infarction) is a condition where a blood clot blocks the arteries that supply the muscles of the heart with oxygenated blood. This blockage reduces or cuts off the blood flow to the muscles and reduces the efficiency of the heart muscle to continue pumping blood. A heart attack happens suddenly and clots may also be found in more than one artery of the organ. A heart attack may also recur and could be fatal.
