An EEG, or electroencephalogram, is a piece of equipment that records brain activity. Small electrodes are attached to the head of the patient in areas where brain activity may be measured accurately. These electrodes are connected to a computer, where readings are translated into figures for easy interpretation by a physician. EEGs are useful in the diagnosis of seizures, dementia, encephalitis and coma.
