A bone density scan for osteoporosis is a diagnostic procedure which aims to determine a person’s susceptibility to osteoporosis. The procedure may also be called a DEXA scan, or dual energy X-ray absorptiometry, which is similar to an x-ray machine. The scan determines the mineral density of the bone; it is recommended that young adults and the elderly have regular DEXA scans to determine bone density.
