When I look back to 12 months ago prior to seeing Chris my life was pretty miserable physically. My knee was so bad that I could hardly walk, stairs were painful, I limped around everywhere and exercise was a no-go. My weight was ballooning, the knock on impact being that I was pretty unhappy with myself and not a nice person to live with as a result. Role the clock forward to today 10 months post-surgery…I exercise regularly, I’m pain free for the first time in years, I ride my bike into work, I’ve lost 3st in weight and within reason my knee no longer impacts my life. It’s funny, sometimes as I walk up stairs I still mentally flinch before I take the step in anticipation of a sharp pain that never comes…It’s funny old habits die hard….

So for me, the surgery Chris performed has been literally life changing. Not just for me, but for those I live with (although my wife may think I spend too much time exercising and on the golf course these days J ). I still take each pain free day as it comes as I know eventually the benefits will wear off, but focusing on the here and now, I feel incredibly privileged to have had a talented surgeon give me my life back and for that I am extremely grateful.
JL, Tibial Tubercle Osteotomy

I have had partial knee replacements (Oxford medial knee replacements) on both knees and am highly delighted with the result, which has left me with pain-free knees and a much better level of activity than I have enjoyed for years.
Mrs S M, Aged 70

I managed to complete the Commissioning Course at Sandhurst and fulfil my goal to become an Officer in the British Army and I would not have been able to do this without the surgery so I am extremely grateful to you.

Delighted with the result of Oxford knee replacement. “The pain has gone completely and it has utterly transformed my life”
DA, Aged 65

I have been back in Saudi for about 6 weeks now and thought I would email to let you and Mr Wilson know how things are going. Please could you pass this onto him.

When I arrived back in Kingdom I visited the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) Flight Surgeons to discuss my medical category and condition. It is slightly amusing that the RSAF cannot produce any Flight Surgeons of their own and they rely on Pakistan Air Force Doctors on loan service but that at least means that they have a more practical aspect to life in general than their prospective Saudi counterparts. They referred to their RSAF medical Manuals and informed me that I would be grounded for 6 months. Fortunately the Head of the RSAF’s Aviation Medicine Section is an ex RAF Group Captain who I know reasonably well. We discussed options and he referred me for assessment to a Sudanese Orthopaedic surgeon who works at the the local military hospital. He was a thoroughly nice chap who had studied in Swansea, London and Manchester and he was amazed at the level of flexion I had after 8 weeks and was very interested with my limited recall of the technique Mr Wilson used. Together with his report and the recommendation from my ex RAF colleague I managed to get back into a cockpit 8 weeks post surgery. As an aside, I felt thoroughly happy at this stage to start flying again and had already tested my knee several times in the Simulator. I have attached a photo of my first mission back with an RSAF Instructor colleague just after we climbed out of the jet. I look absolutely shattered because I truly am. 2 hours of flying in 45 degrees, 90% humidity after 12 weeks off is no fun. Fortunately, being used to flying in the Middle East, we acclimatise quickly!

I would like to extend my thanks to you, Mr Wilson and Dr Groves for the highly efficient and professional service I received since I first made contact in June. I certainly feel that I would be hard pressed to experience better treatment anywhere else in the UK and for that I am truly thankful. I am back to spinning (on a bike) to the level I was 4 months ago. I am not running yet but my knee is showing no sign of discomfort with my current rehab regime. Lisa is sticking rigidly to the rehab schedule and is happy with my progress.

Thank you again for all your help and I am sure our paths will cross again in the future.
Ian, RAF

Following Oxford medial knee arthroplasty “I am so glad that I decided to go ahead with this operation. I now have no pain and the effect of the operation has been liberating, and has got me back to activities that I have not been doing for years and I thought I would never return to”.
Mr J R, 71 years of age

  • Knee replacement or not?

Saw Mr Wilson after x-ray showed severe arthritis right knee. However. I had no night or rest pain and unaffected daily living activities. But I had a slight limp and found walking significant distances difficult;, for example, struggled to complete full round of golf; could not fully straighten the leg. Highly impressed by Mr Wilson. He explained clearly that knee operations not always completely successful; the knee replacement had to be total not partial; a finely balanced decision; but he recommended proceeding. Now 7/8 weeks after the operation and with physiotherapy, delighted by outcome: with initial pain relief, never had significant pain; leg is straight; walking unaided without limp; already almost full movement range. Very grateful to and 100% recommendation of Mr Wilson.
