Mr Manu Mathew is the Consultant Ophthalmologist at Chesterfield Royal Hospital and leads the cornea, external eye disease and glaucoma service. He was formerly Clinical Lead and Staff Governor for the Trust.

A highly-skilled eye doctor, Mr Mathew is a graduate of JIPMER, Pondicherry, India (University of Madras) and worked as a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai, India. He subsequently trained at a number of teaching hospitals in the UK, including the Tennent Institute (University of Glasgow) and Queen’s Medical Centre (University of Nottingham), prior to taking up his current post as a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

Mr Manu Mathew has a wide range of experience in cataract/lens replacement, cornea and glaucoma surgery with over 15,000 successful operations completed over the last 20 years. He performs cataract surgery with special lenses to help achieve complete spectacle independence after surgery (for both distance and near vision) using premium multifocal, monofocal and toric lens to correct excessive astigmatism.
