Tim Hookway: Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in Plymouth
Based at Nuffield Health Plymouth Hospital, Mr Tim Hookway is an experienced Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist who is skilled in the latest minimally invasive investigative and surgical techniques. He provides private treatment for a range of gynaecological problems including pelvic pain, endometriosis, heavy periods, painful periods, abnormal bleeding and hormonal problems.
Training and experience
Mr Tim Hookway graduated in medicine from Imperial College London in 2007. He undertook his gynaecology training in London, before moving to Wessex to complete advanced training in complex laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery at hospitals in Winchester and Southampton.
Mr Hookway was appointed Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust in 2017 where, in addition to general obstetrics and gynaecology support, he is in the process of establishing a specialist Endometriosis Centre at Derriford Hospital. With a private practice based at Nuffield Health Plymouth, he treats most benign gynaecological conditions and has a special interest in laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery.
Committed to a personalised approach, Mr Hookway offers individually tailored treatment and advice designed to meet each woman’s needs, wishes and circumstances.
Mr Hookway has a special interest in laparoscopic surgery, particularly in the management of pelvic pain and endometriosis. Compared to traditional methods, this technique has a number of benefits, including smaller incisions, less post-operative pain and a faster recovery and return to normal life. Mr Hookway offers laparoscopic techniques to diagnose and remove all grades of endometriosis, from mild through to advanced.
Other advanced laparoscopic procedures offered by Mr Hookway include laparoscopic hysterectomy and myomectomy (surgical removal of fibroids), removal of ovarian cysts, removal of adhesions and laparoscopic female sterilisation.
Mr Hookway is also skilled in the use of hysteroscopy, a minimally-invasive procedure that uses a narrow telescope with a light and camera at the end to examine the inside of the womb. Using specially attached instruments, he is able to use the technique to treat conditions such as endometrial polyps and fibroids that may contribute to menstrual problems and abnormal bleeding.
Mr Hookway also has an interest in menstrual disorders and provides both medical and surgical treatments for conditions such as heavy or irregular periods, painful periods, abnormal bleeding and hormonal problems.
Mr Hookway sees private patients by appointment at the Nuffield Health Plymouth Hospital. He is 'fee assured' with several leading insurance providers, meaning that there should be no excess to pay. For patients choosing to self-fund, his fees are:
