Matthew Oluwole: Consultant ENT Surgeon in Sheffield

Training and experience

Mr Oluwole had a broad training in all aspects of ear Nose and Throat surgery, in particular keyhole and endoscopic sinus surgery. Qualifying in 1983, his postgraduate training encompassed Northern England and Dundee, followed by exposure in the West-Midlands and stints in North America. Working in the West Midlands, Mr Oluwole gained experience in all aspects of ENT surgery in general, while developing a special interest and expertise in rhinology and snoring. He attended training courses in the UK, Europe and North America and in 1998 understudied the late Professor Wolfgang Draf in Germany.

In over 20 years as a consultant, to date Mr Oluwole has carried out over 12,000 endoscopic (keyhole) sinus surgical procedures. These have been audited with commendable outcomes. His special interest is in rhinology and snoring.

Since 2016 Mr Oluwole has been Consultant ENT Surgeon with a special interest in Rhinology and Snoring at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Mr Oluwole is a member of the British Rhinology Society and the Royal Society of Medicine and has served on the councils of both organisations. He lectures on post-graduate sinus surgery courses and has worked extensively with GPs, running local seminars and meetings and lecturing on national BMA GP update programmes.

Approach

Mr Oluwole is committed to offering an experienced, safe and competent service to people with nasal and sinus problems, providing all the information needed to help them make informed choices in a fair and honest way.

In many cases, nasal and sinus conditions can be treated medically. Where surgery is indicated, Mr Oluwole is skilled in the latest endoscopic techniques for treating conditions such as infected sinuses, nasal polyps, severe nose bleeds and some tear-duct problems, as well as procedures such as septoplasty to treat nasal blockage.  

Mr Oluwole provides comprehensive assessment of snoring, focusing on the cause in each case and giving the patient the treatment options to explore, including either breathing equipment or modern surgical techniques, where appropriate.  He works with Consultant Chest Physicians to manage sleep apnoea.

Mr Oluwole is available for private consultation at BMI Thornbury Hospital in Sheffield. His specialist service is aimed at patients whose nasal (and throat) problems cannot be dealt with at primary health care level and a GP referral is preferred.
