Vitamin B 12 is commonly known as folate. Its deficiency leads to a condition known as folate deficiency anemia. The main signs and symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency are malaise, sore tongue, depression, pale skin, paresthesias, mouth sores, irritability and depression. Folic acid plays a vital role in the normal development of central nervous system of a fetus. The cause of vitamin B12 deficiency is pernicious anemia, reduced dietary intake, crohn’s disease or some medications that affect its absorption. Treatment depends on the underlying cause.
