Tooth extraction
The removal of a tooth is known as a tooth extraction. Indications of a tooth extraction are advanced caries, periodontitis, impacted wisdom teeth and abscess formation around the tooth. It is carried out under local anaesthetic. Tooth is held with the forceps and gentle side to side rocking movements loosen the tooth in the socket. The tooth is then extracted and the socket is closed by applying pressure with a firm dressing. Wounds of impacted wisdom teeth are closed by sutures.
