Prostate resection (using laser)
Surgical removal of a portion of the prostate gland is known as a prostate resection. It is most commonly used to treat benign prostate hyperplasia. A prostate resection with laser is known as a holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HOLEP). It is suitable for moderate to large size prostates. A laser is used to remove the excess tissue from the prostate. HOLEP has the advantage of less bleeding and a shorter stay in hospitals as compared to other surgical procedures for prostate resection.
