Loiasis

Loiasis is a skin and an eye condition caused by the worm loa loa. The deer fly and the mango fly are vectors of the disease. The worm affects the subcutaneous tissues of the skin and could reach the conjunctiva of the eye. There are itchy swellings under the skin and pain along the eye. There are about 13 million people affected with loiasis and this is usually in areas of West and Central Africa.
