Treatment of hirschsprung's disease

Hirschsprung’s disease is incurable but it can be surgically managed. Surgery includes resection of the involved segment followed by re-suturing of the colon with the anal canal. Most of the affected individuals show improvement after surgery. Sometimes persistent diarrhoea may occur post surgery. Alternatively, another procedure known as rectal irrigation may be considered where the affected bowel segment is decompressed to relieve high pressure.
