When tear ducts in the eyes do not make enough tears or fluids to lubricate the eyes a condition known as dry eyes syndrome develops. The eyes become red, itchy, swollen and irritated. There are many causes of dry eye syndrome and climate, medication and wearing contact lenses are the most common ones. Treatment includes using eye drops to reduce symptoms but a physician may prescribe medications or even surgery.
