Deep vein thrombosis

Deep vein thrombosis

In deep vein thrombosis, a blood clot is present in one of the deep veins of the body, usually the lower extremities. There is chronic and deep leg pain, swelling and reduced mobility of the affected limb. When a blood clot breaks off from the vein and travels into the bloodstream, it could travel to the heart, lungs or the brain causing severe complications. Treatments of DVT include blood thinners, pain medication and conservative remedies such as leg elevation and compresses
