Cholesterol and lipid lowering

Cholesterol and lipid lowering

The body has both ‘good’ and ‘bad’ types of cholesterol. High levels of ‘bad’ cholesterol in the blood can result in the blockage of the blood vessels, thus obstructing its flow to the organs. This deprives them of nutrients and oxygen causing the death of tissue(s). Therefore it is important that this should be treated with medication to lower cholesterol. Statins, niacin, bile-acid resins, fibric-acid derivatives are some of the types of medicines that achieve this. Some of these also increase the amount of ‘good’ cholesterol.
