Breast exam is a recommended physical examination of the breasts. Women are advised to perform breast exam regularly in an effort to detect any abnormal growths in breast tissue as early as possible. A breast examination consists of palpation of the breast, starting with the outer area and moving in a circular motion towards the nipple. Finally, the nipple is examined for any changes, discharge or pain.
