Partial removal of the bowels is a surgical procedure. Portions of the diseased bowel may be removed and the ends reconnected. Removal may be the best way to treat conditions such as colon cancer, abnormal growths in the colon, obstruction, impaction and trauma to the colon. This procedure is performed under general anaesthesia and the patient may need to be confined to hospital for a few days.
