‘Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD)’ is the terminology used to include autism and related disorders such as Asperger’s Syndrome which commonly affects children. The hallmark of ASD is difficulty in communication, repetitive behaviour and inappropriate social interaction. Usually these children do not make eye contact, respond to their name, follow instructions or exhibit social gestures like clapping, waving and nodding. Very commonly they start speaking at a later age than normal. They may be intellectually disabled, and often have visual and hearing impairment.
