Ankle replacement
An ankle joint replacement is a surgical procedure that replaces the damaged joint of an ankle with a prosthetic one. This surgery is performed if there is severe inflammation and pain due to severe osteoarthritis, a sports injury or rheumatoid arthritis and an MRI scan will confirm the severity. The surgery is done under general anaesthesia by an orthopaedic surgeon. There are a number of different types of prosthesis, such as the Agility Total Ankle System and the Scandinavian Total Ankle Replacement.
