Colonoscopy

Colonoscopy

A colonoscopy is a diagnostic procedure where a scope is inserted from the anus through to the colon. This procedure allows the specialist to view the lining of the colon with the use of fibre optic technology. A colonoscopy helps diagnose different conditions of the intestines such as obstruction, growths, cancers and bleeding which can cause abdominal pain. A colonoscope may also be used, along with other surgical equipment, in removing polyps and taking biopsies from the colon. A colorectal surgeon or gastroenterologist may suggest also carrying out a rectum examination by camera to help in the diagnosis.
