About 108 X-ray and Imaging

An expert team

The team at comprises a group of leading London radiologists supported by an eminent cytologist and histopathologist, radiographers, a healthcare assistant and medical secretaries. All of the clinical staff are members of The London Breast Clinic multi-disciplinary team.

Digital Mammography

Digital mammography is a diagnostic, low dose x-ray examination, used to examine the breast. Procedures carried out include Bilateral – both breasts, Unilateral – one breast and Vacuum biopsy. Usually offered to women over 35, it is used routinely in screening programmes. Also being the first investigation for symptomatic purposes, you will be able to investigate your family history of breast cancer. Mammography works in three stages. It is first carried out by a radiographer. The image of the breast is then reviewed by a consultant breast radiologist who will produce a report for the consultant breast surgeon. You will be informed of your results quickly with expert advice on your next steps.

The latest tool in early detection and screening is now available to support traditional digital mammography having been adopted as standard in many states in the USA. Tomosynthesis provides a views of the breast in 3D image slices. More information is available from the attached patient information leaflet.

Plain X-ray

At 108 X-ray and Imaging, x-ray images are processed through a CR reader, which converts them into a digital image. Body parts mostly examined by their reader are:

  • ‘Stork views’ - to exclude pelvic instability for ‘Gilmore’s Groin’
  • Abdomen
  • Ankles
  • Cervical spine
