Breast uplift or breast reduction?

It’s not just larger breasts that are becoming increasingly popular at The Private Clinic, ladies are also wanting to change the shape or positioning of their breasts to make them smaller for a demure look. But which procedure do you go for? Breast uplifts and breast reductions are easily confused as they can have pretty similar outcomes it’s difficult to know where to start. We’re here to help.

Similarities

The Anchor: In both treatments an anchor pattern is the most popular method used. This means the incision follows the areola then goes down to the inframammary fold, which is the fold under the breast.
Sagging: Both procedures can help with any excessive sagging of the breasts.
Irritation: Both procedures will help alleviate any irritation underneath the breast.
Overall appearance: both procedures result in breasts appearing smaller and you will have had what some call a ‘reverse boob-job’.

Differences

Breast reductions are not always just about getting smaller breasts but can be used to alter the shape of the breast for a new look. Any asymmetry or irregularities can be addressed by selective reduction of the mass of the breast itself.

An uplift will remove any ‘sagging’ which is the main motivation for having it done. Your breasts will probably look smaller because of the change in position however they will be the same size, only the skin tissue from the breast gets taken away and not the fat, giving you a firm look. But you’re losing the visible ‘weight’ which is where the confusion lies. This is different from a reduction where the size difference will be obvious.

An uplift is more suitable if your nipples and/or areolas are far down on the breast or are pointing downwards. Or if they are dropping lower than your breast crease.

A breast reduction is more suitable if your breasts are simply too large, by this we mean they are aesthetically unattractive to you and may be restricting what you feel good about wearing. A breast reduction is also ideal for those experiencing discomfort, neck, shoulder or back pain because their breasts are so large. If the size of your breasts is limiting your physical activity and they’re getting in the way due to their size then a reduction is better.

With large sagging breasts either treatment  at The Private Clinic can help, it really depends on how your breasts are currently sitting, their size and shape. As with all their treatments a full consultation with an experienced surgeon will help you determine exactly what you need.
