Mr Kiron Bhal is a Consultant Gynaecologist with special interest in urinary incontinence, pelvic floor disorders and vaginal hysterectomies for heavy periods.
After completing his undergraduate medical training at University of Wales College of Medicine Cardiff in 1989, Mr Bhal did his postgraduate training around Cardiff, Newport and Bristol. He took his MRCOG examination in 1995 and completed the Welsh Deanery Training program to achieve certificate of completion specialist training (CCST) in 1999.
Following the completion of his general obstetrics and gynaecology training, he served as a clinical research fellow in the Cardiff Assisted Reproduction Unit and subsequently as lecturer in the Academic Unit at the University Hospital of Wales from 1995 to 2000. This culminated in Mr Bhal's submission and acceptance of his MD thesis in 2001 from the University of Wales. Kiron then worked as a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist in the University Hospital of Wales, Royal Gwent Hospital and Llandough Hospital before being appointed to his current post in 2003.
Gynaecological treatments offered
Kiron Bhal has a wide range of experience in gynaecological surgery. His main clinical interests include vaginal and urogynaecological (female urinary incontinence and prolapse) surgery. He conducts the full range of urodynamics assessment, flexible cystoscopies (and intradetrusor Botox injections for refractory detrusor overactivity), stress urinary incontinence surgery including midurethral tape (TVT/TOT) surgery as well as reconstructive surgery for advanced/recurrent vaginal prolapse (such as sacrospinous fixation and sacrocolpopexy) including the use of mesh in selected cases.
Mr Bhal performs vaginal hysterectomies (including removal of ovaries if indicated) for benign gynaecological conditions when less invasive options have been unsuccessful. He is an accomplished laparoscopic surgeon who carries out laparoscopic procedures such as treatment of endometriosis, adhesiolysis, laparoscopic salpingectomy (removal of fallopian tube) and oophorectomy (removal of ovary) and sacrocolpopexy (mesh to support advanced prolapse). He also manages follow up for women who have sustained obstetric perineal trauma.
