Specialist in minimal access surgery for endometriosis, corrective surgery for urinary incontinence and prolapse, and treatment of menstrual problems.


Dib Datta qualified in 1988 from the University of Calcutta, India. He subsequently did his MD in 1991, going on to gain the membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (MRCOG), London and the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP), Dublin; both in 1994.

 

He has trained extensively in the UK, and was a senior registrar at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle upon Tyne, where he gained his certificate of completion of specialist training (CCST) in obstetrics and gynaecology.

 

He joined the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust as a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in 2005, and has admission rights for his gynaecology patients and mothers-to-be at both Maidstone and Pembury Hospitals. In addition, he enjoys admission rights for his gynaecology patients at the BMI Somerfield Hospital in Maidstone and the Nuffield Hospital in Tunbridge Wells.

 

In his NHS practice, he is the Chairman of the Clinical Risk Management Group of the women’s services for the trust and the Lead Delivery Suite Obstetrician, besides being on several departmental and trust committees.

 

He is a member of the General Medical Council (GMC), The British Medical Association (BMA) and The Medical Defence Union (MDU).


Research interests

Mr Datta's research interests in maternity care include various birthing positions, dysfunctional labour and secondary post-partum haemorrhage. His gynaecology research interests involve menorrhagia or heavy periods and various treatment modalities for chronic pelvic pain. He is currently participating in a trial using fascial repair or mesh for anterior vaginal wall prolapse in women.

  • Pelvic pain (arising from polycystic ovary syndrome: PCOS, endometriosis, adhesions)
  • Prolapse and urinary incontinence
  • Sexual problems (painful intercourse, bleeding after intercourse, loss of libido)

His range of gynaecological surgery includes minimal access surgery (laparoscopy/ hysteroscopy), besides surgery for disorders of the ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus, vagina, vulva and the bladder neck.

                                                                

Together with his partners of the Female Healthcare Group he run a series of rapid access clinics which offer a complete approach to any gynaecological concerns using the most up to date technology available.

Private maternity care

Mr Datta offers private antenatal care for mothers-to-be. This includes a comprehensive antenatal package, including blood tests, scans and other measures of well being for both mother and baby throughout the pregnancy, ensuring complete care and support.

 

He attends all his private deliveries, and his clients are assured of his personal direct intervention in labour to safeguard safety for mother and baby, should there be deviations from the normal.

 

He works closely with community and hospital midwives and is a great believer in empowering mothers (& fathers )-to-be through providing scientific and evidence-based information.

Gynaecology appointments can also be booked directly by phoning the BMI Somerfield Hospital at Maidstone or the Nuffield Hospital at Tunbridge Wells.

 

Ante-natal appointments can also be booked by phoning the Kings Hill Medical Centre at West Malling.

 

Mr Datta is happy to see self referred patients and mothers-to-be (no GP referral letter) but please note that if you are using a private health insurance policy to fund your treatment you will require a referral letter from your GP.
