Mr Anthony Abbas FRCOG: Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, London and Kent
Anthony Abbas is a consultant Obstetrician Gynaecologist with special interest in Fetal Medicine. He works as a consultant at Queen Mary's NHS Trust, Sidcup, Kent and is an Honorary consultant at The Harris Birthright Centre, Kings College Hospital, London
Mr Abbas trained as an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Kings College and St Mary’s Hospital, London. He did his research in fetal medicine at The Harris Birthright Centre, Kings College Hospital, London. Mr Abbas specialises in pre-natal screening and diagnosis of fetal abnormalities, he also performs a wide range of invasive procedures including CVS and amniocentesis.
Obstetric ultrasound scans
Mr Abbas established The Avenue Clinic in Sevenoaks, Kent in 2001 primarily as an Ultrasound Diagnostic Service for women providing the complete range of obstetric scanning procedures, fetal assessment, counselling, and follow-up diagnostic testing.
As a fetal medicine expert Mr Abbas offers the latest screening tests for Downs syndrome including: the mothers age, measurement of the nuchal fold at the back of the babies neck (nuchal translucency), presence or absence of nasal bone, tricuspid regurgitation, fetal ductus venosus and measurement of the hormones bhCG and PAPP-A in the mother’s blood.
Mr Abbas was part of the research team at Kings College Hospital which developed the Nuchal Translucency Scan in 1995.
