Jeremy Crew MA, MD, BChir, FRCS (Urol) is a Consultant Urologist, with a specialist interest in general urology, urological cancer, haematuria, and the diagnosis and management of bladder cancer and prostate cancer. 

 

Jeremy Crew was appointed Consultant Urological Surgeon and Honorary Senior Lecturer to the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals in 2001 and provides NHS and Private Practice services to Oxford (The Manor Hospital) and Banbury (The Foscote Hospital).

 

He qualified from Cambridge University and St Thomas’ Hospital, London in 1989. After House Jobs in London he practised as a Senior House Officer at Guys Hospital, London, St Georges Hospital, London and the Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford. Following a year as a General Surgical Registrar he was appointed as Specialist Registrar in Urology in Oxford in 1994. After 6 years of higher surgical training he was appointment as Consultant Urological Surgeon and Honorary Senior Lecturer in Oxford and Banbury in 2001.

 

During training Mr Crew did 2 years of very successful research into the molecular biology of bladder cancer culminating in being awarded a Doctor of Medicine degree from Cambridge University. The Thesis was awarded the Sir Walter Langdon Brown Prize from Cambridge University (1998) and the European Association of Urology Thesis Award (1999).

 

Specialist Training included Fellowships in the management of bladder cancer, prostate cancer and radical pelvic surgery at  The Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre, New York , The Department of Urology at The University of Berne, Switzerland (under Professor Urs Studer) and more recently (2007) at The Institute of Urology and Nephrology Bladder Cancer Centre, Mansoura, Egypt.

Jeremy Crew maintains an active research interest in both clinical, and basic science research with research links to Cancer Research UK and the Weatherhill Institute of Molecular Biology in Oxford. He holds to post of Honorary Senior Lecturer at Oxford University.

 

His present research interests are directed towards the management of haematuria and the role of imaging in urological cancer. He also has developed research interests into the role of Photodynamic diagnosis in non-muscle invasive bladder cancers.

 

He is involved in the introduction of clinical trials into bladder and prostate cancer within Oxfordshire.  

 

Clinical interests

His main subspecialist area of expertise in uro-oncology. He runs a tertiary referral service for complex bladder cancer and the management of superficial bladder cancer (including intravesical agents) and has a specialist interest in the management of localised and advanced prostate cancer.

Jeremy Crew provides a broad spectrum of general urology including the management of BPH, raised PSA’s, lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and haematuria (blood in the urine), prostatitis and stone disease. Mr Crew has set up and provides one-stop services for investigation of haematuria and raised PSA in the NHS and privately. He has expertise in TURP, vasectomy for sterilisation and bilateral vasectomy reversal.
