Vhi Healthcare considering price increases

Vhi Healthcare has not made any decision on future pricing, but customers will be very surprised if they escape premium increases in 2011.

A major row between Ireland's private hospitals and Vhi Healthcare could leave Vhi customers without access to some of the top private hospitals. Phi and several of the country’s private hospitals are locked in a dispute following the health insurer’s demands they sign up to agreements that caps the amount the Vhi will pay hospitals in 2011, irrespective of the number of patients treated. A number of hospitals are refusing to agree to the new payment arrangements and are set to complain to the Competition Authority alleging Vhi is operating in a monopolistic, anti-competitive fashion.
