Meet the Premier Veins Team – Birmingham

In the second of our ‘Meet the Team’ series, we chat to Mr Massimo Vezzosi from our Birmingham clinic about his vascular and Premier Veins journey.

What interested you in a career within vascular care, and how did you get into it?

It was during medical school that I developed my passion for vascular care. When I attended my first vascular theatre list, I soon realised that it would become my future. I love the fact that vascular is a perfect mix of traditional open surgery and keyhole endovascular procedures. Hence why in 2013, after I had qualified from the University of Parma, Italy, I moved to the UK to train in minimally invasive endovascular techniques. It is here, where I furthered my interest and grew my expertise in venous disease and endovenous treatment, which ultimately led me to join the Premier Veins team.

How did you become a member of the Premier Veins team?

For 5 years, I had been working as a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB), where I developed a professional rapport with my colleagues Mr Martin Claridge, Mr Donald Adam and Mr Hosaam Nasr (also members of the Premier Veins team). That is why in 2021 when I began my private practice, I decided to join Premier Veins in order to maintain the same collaborative approach whilst looking after patients within the independent sector.

What is your favourite part about working for Premier Veins?

I really enjoy working with the team to provide highly effective, minimally invasive, walk-in-walk-out treatments for venous disease. Teamwork is one of Premier Veins’ main strengths, as it allows us to deliver award-winning service to our patients.

What are your thoughts on the future of vein health and treatment?

It is clear that the future of vein health will exclusively consist of minimally invasive keyhole treatment. At Premier Veins, we offer the latest endovascular procedures for a wide range of vein conditions to help give patients’ legs a new lease of life.

Are you currently working on any vein health research?

At Premier Veins, all procedures and their outcomes are audited, and the results discussed in regular governance meetings. Throughout this process, we make sure to deliver high-quality, patient-focused care.

Furthermore, I am personally, heavily involved in training activities, mainly workshops in endovascular techniques, for trainees and junior consultants.

Do you have a particular vein condition that you specialise in, and what is your favourite treatment for it?

I have a broad skill base in keyhole surgery so can offer a variety of award-winning treatments for varicose veins. My favourite ones include Ultrasound-Guided Foam Sclerotherapy and Radiofrequency Ablation.

What would you say to someone who was considering vein treatment?

I would like to reassure them that the treatments provided at Premier Veins are evidence-based, minimally invasive and performed under no or local anaesthetic with minimal side effects. Following the procedure, patients can return home that same day, and their favourite activities soon after. I would strongly recommend to anyone with venous disease to contact Premier Veins and book a free, no-obligation mini-consultation to find out more about our award-winning service.

Thank you Massimo for sharing your experience with us. We are delighted to have you as part of the Premier Veins team.
