New healthcare cash plan

Help the Aged is so concerned that older people can be priced out of the health insurance market that it launched its own Healthcare Cash Plan, with no upper age limit, and premiums from £19.75 a month. Two levels of benefit are available.

Late last year the charity sent a letter with details of the new plan to 20,000 customers. This pilot exercise was a success so a national roll out of the product is planned for 2007.

The policy is insured by specialist health cash insurer Paycare, and is based on that company’s own tailored product for those over 50 - Paycare Gold.

As well as conventional covers, and the deletion of benefits not relevant to older people, such as maternity cover, there are extra offerings. This includes the Red Arc care advisory service, serious illness benefit and home support.

Anne Grahamshaw of Help the Aged says: "Our cash plan offers older people the choice of an affordable alternative to expensive private medical insurance, assisting with the costs of treatment and consultations for a wide range of health needs.”
