New breast care service improves patient care

Blossoms Healthcare is launching a new service to dramatically improve mammography screening, at the same time as significantly reducing associated PMI claims.

Beyond a traditional mammography screen, the new Blossoms' service includes secondary diagnosis (ultrasound, fine needle aspiration, pathology) during the screen, with all results for the patient instantly available.

Magnus Kauders, Blossoms Healthcare's Commercial Director says: "Mammography is a standard screening test which is included in most health assessments, however, it's an area of health screening where there's ongoing debate about whether the risks outweigh the benefits.

"On balance, the evidence supports mammography screening and the NHS screening programme is steadily being extended. What's clear though, is that whenever a mammogram is delivered, it should be delivered in the best possible way, with minimum risk and anxiety to the patient.

"We're now including secondary diagnosis on the spot if a mammogram shows anything of concern, within a service fee comparable with digital mammography screening rates.

"For patients, that means there's no onward referral for more tests and the anxiety involved in waiting for another appointment or waiting to receive results, which can take days even in the best private hospitals, is gone.

"For businesses, it means there's no subsequent claim for PMI funded treatment, as it's already covered within the screening service.

"We believe we're setting new standards of patient care, as well as building the link between health screening and PMI, driving a return on investment for businesses and reducing their benefits costs."
