Move to care in your home rather than in a care home

Enabling more people to receive care in their own home, rather than moving into residential care, is a central aim of reform, Gordon Brown says.

The government's National Care Service will include access to re-ablement and rehabilitation services in a bid to help people to remain in their own homes for longer.

This builds on the vision of the Personal Care at Home Bill, which is currently being scrutinised in the House of Lords, and promises to remove charges and fees from 280,000 people with the highest needs for care in their own homes. It has been widely criticised by financial advisers and local authority leaders who believe it vastly underestimates the true cost of care.
