Men should be better informed about the potential
sexual health problems associated with steroid use, an expert has claimed.
According to Jim Pollard, editor of website Malehealth.co.uk, steroids can cause
impotence as well as affecting users' moods and men would "think twice" about their use if they were more aware of the side-effects.
"People aren't aware of the effects drugs have on them in general," Mr Pollard claimed, arguing that consumers tend to view prescription drugs as "basically good things" without considering the risks.
"If more men knew about the effects that they were likely to have on them, they'd be less likely to take them…If people knew that it was going to affect their moods and affect their sex lives, those two things together would probably make people think twice," he said.
A survey published yesterday (May 21st) by the charity Drugscope warned that "thousands" of teenage boys and young men could be using anabolic steroids to boost their physique.
