Breast enlargement linked to increased self esteem

Cosmetic Surgery Turkey

A new study has concluded that breast enlargement surgery could help to boost women's self esteem levels.

Researchers at the University of Florida have concluded that cosmetic surgery could have the added benefit of improving self-esteem in patients undergoing breast enlargement procedures.

Cynthia Figueroa-Haas, a clinical assistant professor at the university's college of nursing, believes that the procedures should never be used as a direct treatment for low feelings of self-worth but that the positive benefits should be understood.

A total of 84 women took part in the study and it was discovered that the average self-esteem score increased from 20.7 to 24.9 following the procedure, while the average female sexual function score increased from 27.2 to 31.4.

"Many individuals, including health-care providers, have preconceived negative ideas about those who elect to have plastic surgery, without fully understanding the benefits that may occur from these procedures," said Ms Figueroa-Haas.

Full details of the research are published in the latest issue of Plastic Surgery nursing and it is hoped that it could lead to further studies into links between cosmetic surgery and improved feelings of self-esteem.
