Embarrassing Fat Bodies patient Yolanda had 3 large hernias and was so morbidly obese that she couldn’t play with her children and even missed out at school events, sending her husband to record them for her to watch at home.
However, before treating her hernias, Dr Pixie advised that she needed to lose the excess weight that was causing them.
Dr Pixie sent her to Prof Michael McMahon, who performed a gastric sleeve (sleevectomy). This is an irreversible stomach reduction procedure carried out under general anaesthetic, during which the Surgeon removed 80% of her stomach.
6 weeks after the procedure, Yolanda returned to the clinic to see Dr Pixie and she’d already lost 3½ stone, setting her firmly on the right path to weight loss and better health for the future.
A spokesperson for The Hospital Group, UK leaders in weight loss surgery said: “The gastric sleeve procedure means that the stomach continues to function as normal, but is simply smaller, which reduces the appetite and makes it easier to cut down dramatically on calorie intake.
In addition, the portion of the stomach that is removed is the area responsible for secreting the hormone “Ghrelin”, which is responsible for appetite and hunger. The near elimination of this “hunger hormone” results in a significant reduction or loss of appetite so that patients can lose weight.
Prof McMahon is an excellent bariatric surgeon and we are pleased to have him on The Hospital Group’s weight loss team.”
As well as the gastric sleeve, The Hospital Group also offers the gastric bypass and balloon. The company is UK leader in gastric banding, performing even more procedures than the NHS.
Private and confidential surgical consultations are available in clinics around the country.
