CIGNA to sell private medical insurance in Spain

CIGNA's international business plans to develop and sell individual private medical insurance outside the United States, starting with Spain.

Cigna International also will provide private medical insurance to individual expatriates and high net-worth people.

Gloria Barone for CIGNA says, "The international business will launch private medical insurance for citizens of Spain by end of first quarter, leveraging our already well-established group health care business there and our direct marketing operation. There, the company can use the underwriting, networks, medical management capability and distribution already in place to market an individual private medical insurance product to the Spanish market. Over time, we will expand to other countries."

CIGNA's international business provides life, accident and health insurance, as well as global expatriate benefits. Currently, it has business operations in 27 countries and jurisdictions. The company also covers expatriate employees on assignment outside their home countries in every country in the world through its network of 600,000 doctors and hospitals.
