Christmas dinner equals weight management

Christmas is coming and everyone's scared of getting fat, but a leading nutritionist has said that Britons can avoid piling on the pounds by eating in moderation over the festive period.

Vicky Warr, director of Beez Kneez fitness agency in London, said that you do not have to completely deprive yourself of treats over the Christmas period.

However, she warned that UK residents can consume around 7,000 calories on Christmas day – around 5,000 more than their recommended daily number.

According to the nutritionist, Christmas pudding and brandy butter alone can contain as many as 1,200 calories.

Ms Warr said: "To burn off just that pudding energy you would need to run for two hours or complete a half marathon.

"It's no wonder there are so many detox diets and people rushing to join a gym in January."

The average person puts on around half a stone over the Christmas period and loses up to five pounds of muscle.

Ms Warr said that to avoid piling on the yuletide pounds, there are simple steps that you can take, including planning ahead, eating lots of vegetables and water and doing some exercise.

Taking these steps could help to ensure you do not put on too much weight and increase your chance of needing obesity treatment.
