Chelsfield Park Hospital physiotherapy department

BMI Chelsfield Park Hospital today officially announced the launch of its new look physiotherapy department. The new unit, located on the second floor of the Bromley Hospital, offers treatments and dedicated facilities across a wide range of conditions, from common back pain, to more complex post-trauma rehabilitation. The unit was officially opened by David Goddard, a Chelsfield Park Hospital physiotherapy patient and 2016 Paralympics hopeful.

David was invited to launch the physiotherapy service and unveil the new department at a special event held for Chelsfield Park Hospital staff and consultants. David, a former gymnast, has been a physiotherapy patient at Chelsfield Park Hospital for more than 12 years. After an accident ended his gymnastic career in 2005, David didn’t give up on his sporting ambitions and has since turned his hand to wheel chair rugby. He currently plays professionally for London and is hoping to make the squad for the 2016 Paralympics in Rio De Janeiro. Speaking at the launch of the new department David comments, “It was an honour being asked to open the new physiotherapy department at Chelsfield Park Hospital. My physio, Gary, and all the team have been an amazing asset to me over the past 12 years and I would like to thank everyone for the support they have provided me with. The new department looks amazing and everyone in the team and at the hospital should be very proud of it.”

The physiotherapy team has been treating patients in the local community for over 20 years and the established nine-person team focus on musculoskeletal therapy, back pain, sports injuries and post-surgical rehabilitation. Treatments available at the new unit will include the treatment of respiratory conditions, musculoskeletal injuries in children from the age of three, male and female incontinence and reflexology to aid relaxation, ease muscle aches and relieve stress.

Speaking on the move to the new facility BMI Chelsfield Park Hospital Physiotherapy Manager Deborah Farr commented: “We are delighted to open the doors of our new physiotherapy department to the local community and look forward to welcoming established and new patients in the upcoming months. I’d like to give special mention to my team who has been instrumental in the implementation and successful delivery of this re-launch. Without them it wouldn’t have been possible and I would like to personally thank each and every one of them for the contribution they have made. We’d also like to thank David for doing us the honour of officially opening this new service. Asking one of our patients to open the new Physiotherapy treatment area was important to us as David represents how dedicated we are about providing the highest standard of treatment to enable our patients to achieve their goals. David is an inspiring young man and we are certain that he will reach his goal representing Great Britain at the 2016 Paralympics in Brazil.”

Executive Director of BMI Chelsfield Park Hospital, Ruth Hoadley states: “The whole team at Chelsfield Park Hospital is committed to providing the best possible care to our patients and the opening of this new facility will help to ensure that our patients have access to a broader range of treatments under one roof. This investment in the new physiotherapy department will allow us to maintain the highest possible range of care to people of all ages in the local community."
