BMI to manage Private Patient Unit at Kingston Hospital NHS Trust

BMI Healthcare, the UK’s largest private hospital group and a subsidiary of General Healthcare Group (GHG), has been awarded a contract to manage the Coombe Wing private patients unit within Kingston Hospital NHS Trust in Surrey. From 1 October, the dedicated multi-specialty unit will be renamed BMI Coombe Wing and will be operated as part of BMI’s growing portfolio of 60+ hospitals, clinics and consulting rooms across the country.

This latest addition grows BMI’s presence in Surrey, where it already owns and operates Mount Alvernia Hospital in Guildford, The Runnymede Hospital in Chertsey and The Shirley Oaks Hospital in Croydon. BMI’s agreement with Kingston also provides an option to redevelop the facilities in a new build on the Kingston Hospital site.

The Coombe Wing has 22 individual rooms with en-suite facilities for inpatients and day case patients, a dedicated outpatient department and physiotherapy department. The physicians and surgeons practising at Coombe cover an extensive range of specialties including orthopaedics, general surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, urology, plastic and cosmetic surgery, and also general medicine.

BMI will continue to source a range of clinical services from the Trust, including pharmacy, pathology, radiology, theatres and all support services. BMI also plans to fully refurbish the ward into line with its other facilities.

Adrian Fawcett, Chief Executive of General Healthcare Group, commented: “Assuming management of The Coombe Wing is a fantastic opportunity for BMI Healthcare to work with Kingston Hospital NHS Trust to deliver high quality private patient care to the local community. We are delighted to welcome the Coombe Wing’s staff, consultant doctors and other clinicians to our BMI Healthcare group and look forward to further improving the facilities within Coombe and promoting the growth and development of the unit’s services within the area.”

“This partnership is an exciting venture and is designed to strengthen the range of clinical services that we provide on the Kingston Hospital site,” said Kate Grimes, Chief Executive of Kingston Hospital NHS Trust.
