BMI The London Independent Hospital coffee morning

On 30 September patients, neighbours, clinicians and staff at BMI The London Independent Hospital in Stepney Green baked hundreds of cakes and brewed gallons of tea and coffee for Macmillan Cancer Support’s ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ fundraising event. Last year 43,000 people across the UK registered to hold a coffee morning and an estimated 2.6 million people took part raising £7.9 million. This year Macmillan Cancer Support hopes that the coffee morning has been even bigger and better than before and hopes to have reached their £8 million target.

The coffee morning, now in its 21st year, is held every year to help raise awareness and vital funds for the cancer research charity.  The London Independent Hospital hosted a coffee morning and quiz and raised in excess of £375 for Macmillan Cancer Support. But behind the cake and coffee lies a more serious target. Every day in the UK 822 people are told they have cancer and Macmillan Cancer Support helps fund vital medical, emotional and financial support services to these people and their families.

Kirsty Baker, Executive Director of The London Independent Hospital commented, “As a hospital we are very aware of the great work Macmillan carries out.  We hope that by taking part in this event we will help raise both awareness and vital funds for this charity that touches the lives of so many people with cancer each and every year.”

Kelly Deppe, the Oncology Manager at The London Independent Hospital, who organised the event said, “The work Macmillan carries out is absolutely vital in supporting people living with or surviving from cancer. Through our work with families surviving cancer, our staff at The London Independent Hospital know how vital every penny raised for Macmillan is. We only hope that this year is bigger and better and that we raise more money than ever before.”
