BMI clinicians to feature in Sky TV’s new “A Year To Save My Life”

A team of clinicians from the UK’s largest independent hospital group BMI Healthcare (BMI) will be featured in Sky TV’s newly commissioned series, “A Year to Save My Life,” which follows the trials and tribulations of eight obese individuals as they battle through major diet and exercise regimes to lose half their body weight over the course of one year. Produced by Eyeworks UK, the show began production this month, and the series is set to air on Sky 1 in 2011.

The first phase of filming took place at BMI Healthcare’s Syon Clinic in Brentford on 4-8 October. GP, RMO and Health Screening doctor at BMI Dr Niall Dove, along with Senior Nurse Gayle Burn, was involved throughout the five-day filming process, providing top-to-toe health assessments for all the show’s contributors. In addition, BMI dietitians Claire Wylde and Hasina Aktar, provided all contributors with nutritional assessments. Moving forward, the BMI team will continue to work with the contributors on their diet plans as well as conducting quarterly health assessments.

Dr Dove said, “Everyday in my practice, I see the devastating impact obesity can have on people’s health and quality of life. I think this show could be a beacon of hope for the many people throughout the UK who have become overwhelmed by ongoing struggles with their weight. The team and I are very pleased to be involved in such an incredible programme and to be providing the health assessment and nutritional services for the programme’s contributors.

These brave participants will be undergoing intense diet and exercise regimes during the course of this show, so it’s hugely important that they have trained medical experts on hand to monitor their progress and ensure their wellbeing as they undertake this life-changing – and indeed life-saving – journey. Hats off to the contributors. I wish them all the best of luck for the months ahead. I can’t wait to see their progress!”
